fat kitty in the books

When you don't go anywhere but to the used bookstore all day, you must amuse yourself with the simplicities of life.
Like being infatuated with the way the sun shines against your linen curtains creating a lovely afternoon glow in the room. It reminds me of a scene from a movie where the main character would be sipping their tea and rocking in the rocking chair waiting for her long lost love to find her simply rocking and rocking back and forth. I mean, wouldn't you think that was odd if you came home and found your significant other just staring and rocking and rocking back and forth. I think then i would say it's time for a trip to the mental institute....that might be fun, come on honey!
Anyway these lazy days i find myself photographing very ordinary objects, such as my feet. Yes! There you are feet, i have forgotten all about you because you have been entrapped by those crazy shoes you are always wearing. Whew...i'm glad i remembered. It is still cold so therefore i must still wear shoes...hmmmmm how unfortunate.
One good thing came from my wondering about the musty old bookstore, a very fat kitty kat with a rather short tail. Or maybe her fattiness just made it look short but i'm pretty sure it was shorter than most. I should let you know now that i love animals bordering on the obese. It is a little odd i know but i can't help it that i think that the more rolls the better! I did come across a good find in the old bookstore though. Molly Katzen's "Enchanted Broccoli Forest" cookbook. I have her moosewood cookbook which is very lovely and thought that this would be a nice accompaniment to that. I really just love the name also. I am a cookbook fiend, i can't seem to help myself when i see them, especially used, knowing somebody else has tried these same recipes that i will be using...ah, so wonderful!
although some days can be rather simple and uneventful, i find that these can be the best and hold the most potential. Who knew i would find such a fun cookbook and come across a lovely fat kitty???

as a sunday should be

On a snowy blah day what you want to do is eat eggs. And toast and potatoes and buttery crumbly perfectly glazed scones. As an appetizer of sort, yes breakfast can have appetizers, but if you prefer to call them accompaniments for sounding rather piggish be my guest. Scones are a perfect pre-breakfast nibbly. The lemon was a perfect balance of sweet and acid which left your mouth feeling cleaner than a day at the dentist. The cherry had lovely little nuggets of the sweet fruits with the sugar glaze that balanced their overly sour tendencies.

The lazy jane cafe is a small hole in the wall breakfast joint located on the east side of Madison. Madison, WI, yes i know i'm going out side of the land of the north but really this is just about the same only it's slightly more south and not any warmer or less snowy. So don't all go running with your flip flops and snorkels, maybe a fork because you will want as many utensils as you can get your hands on going to this place. Dig in to the gargantuan amount of frenchy toast with those multiple utensils. Of course you may need more than one mouth because this is one large plate. If you were already sugared out from the scones go for the savory eggs, bacon and potatoes plate and you won't be unsatisfied. Maybe while you're shoveling fork after fork or food in your mouth try to sneak in some sips of delicious hot chocolate or my favorite the good old latte. Tried and true and brewed to coffee perfection.

Although this place may look like there is an impossible line to get through, be patient my dear Madisonians, they are all waiting for a reason and you won't be sorry when you find out what that reason is.

if a diner could talk

I can't think of anything better or more comforting on a cold winter's night than eating some fried cheese and downing a few brews...very Minnesota if i may add. Last night M and I went to one of the most hip and friendly Minneapolis diners. Of course it wasn't really a diner diner...more a kitschy trendy laid back local fun restaurant. Ok let me tell you who M is because i'm sure you're all just dying to learn about this new character. M is my fiance and M stands for Matt, how original , i know come on, give me a break here. He is the kindest most unselfish person i have ever met and whenever i am around him i want to become a better person. I'm working on that becoming a better person thing, let me assure you.
Now back to this diner....the Town Talk Diner is located in a rather interesting spot in Minneapolis a place where i would have never expected a place like that to be. I'm not judging but it seems to be located off the beaten path of restaurant experience seekers...i mean it's by a target (nothing against target by the way). It's just in a strange location. The outside is glittery and reminds me of an old supper club in a way that you would expect people in their old Cadillacs to be driving up and ladies in their furs would be seen being escorted along the side walk as if photographers were vying for a chance at photographing this elite group of people. Inside those people are replaced by their grandchildren who now live in downtown lofts and drink 40's on ice and fair trade coffee.

We started with the frickels (yes fried pickels) with their outside lite and crisp with the sour mingling nicely with the salty, hello i didn't know you were fried, outside jacket. The cheese curds equally delicious came with their own house made ketchup that didn't resemble anything of the overly sweet under tomato infused variety one would find at an unmentionable location. No these were little melty cheddary puffs of delightful cloud nine variety. Even better than the state fair i might add. The rest of our meal was wonderful, the kitchen sink burger held up to it's title. My Swedish meatballs accompanied by a delicious cabbage side of some sort. Cabbage you ask, Cabbage?? Yes! Cabbage can actually be edible and by edible i mean something you actually look forward to eating and then wanting more of it when you have demolished every last bit. You really should expand your horizons a bit. Now if you would be so kind as to move on to dessert with me but i must ask to see some identification as this dessert is not for the young, well maybe young at heart but you get my drift. Adult milkshakes people! With bellies full of comfort and happiness, this last finishing bit really takes the cake actually take the cake away because we want ice creamy shakes infused with just enough liquor to make your cheeks rosy and your jokes that much more amusing. Ahhh so now take your pale Minnesota faces and un-humorous antics to the Town Talk Diner and you'll be the talk of the town.

behind the lens

Greetings everyone....or anyone who happens to be dropping by!
This is my first post to A day in the Camera. Really what i want to share with you is how i see the world through the lens of my camera. I tend to find a sort of magical world through pictures. They portray a split second in time, an event, a person, a relationship, a season. It's a still life of a moment that will only happen once. I want to capture these moments so that I have memories for myself, my children and those that want to look back and know what a specific year might have looked like through one person's eyes.
